Wonca South Asia Conference 2024 will be held in conjunction with Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka from 3rd - 5th May 2024.
The conference will provide the ideal platform to disseminate new knowledge in Primary Care / Family Medicine in the region and beyond.
The presentations will be in the format of oral presentation or electronic poster.
Abstracts should ideally be on original research, clinical audits or interesting case series in any of the sub topics as listed below, and must be relevant to Primary Care and/or Family Medicine.

All abstracts should be submitted online through this website before 5.00 pm Sri Lanka time (GMT +5.30) on 30th January 2024.
Abstract submission deadline extended till 01st March 2024

Oral Presentations - Parallel sessions may be conducted depending on the number of papers selected. Multimedia facilities will be made available.

Poster Presentations - Posters will be presented in the electronic format on screens provided at the Sessions.


Abstract Submission Fee

No Abstract submission fee is applicable. The presenting author must register and attend the Conference to be included in the Conference programme/Publications.

Guidelines for preparation and submission of Abstracts

Please follow the following guidelines when submitting your Abstract.

Title of Paper

-Title must not exceed 25 words, should be brief but adequately reflecting the scientific content of the presentation. Please ensure that your title is entered in title case. For e.g., "Innovations in Primary Healthcare: A Comprehensive Approach to Diabetes Management" and not "Innovations in primary healthcare: A comprehensive approach to diabetes management". You may check the title casing if necessary. Do not enter the title in all uppercase or all lowercase letters.

- Abbreviations should not be used in the title.

Author/s
Please complete as necessary. Please write the surname of the authors followed by their initials. Each initial should be followed by a full-stop and a space.

Do not use prefixes such as Prof, Dr, Mr. or Mrs.

Ex: Brown A. B. C.

There is no restriction on the number of authors, provided they can justify their inclusion based on the ICMJE authorship criteria.


Presenting Author
Please write the surname of the presenting authors followed by their initials. Each initial should be followed by a full-stop and a space.

Do not use prefixes such as Prof, Dr, Mr. or Mrs.

Ex: Brown A. B. C.


Abstract Subject Category
Please select the sub topic from the drop-down menu


+ Abstract Structure


The abstract in its final form must be written in English.

Word limit of the abstract is 300.

Do not include any tables, graphs or other types of images in the Abstract.

Abbreviations should be cited in full at first occurrence and (in brackets after the full word) except for standard abbreviations.

Non-English and Technical Terms should be in italics.

Acknowledgements if applicable, should be confined to citing grants or funds utilized for the study in a single sentence in italics. One line space should be left between the text and the acknowledgements.

Body of the abstract should contain the following;

- Objective / Background (Rationale and significance of the Study)

- Methodology (The study design, specified settings, examination of subjects, research instruments and the analysis to derive findings and conclusions)

- Results (The principal findings that address the primary objective)

- Conclusions (Core Messages, novel insights and potential implications for future research directions and practical applications)

Abstracts not conforming to the above instructions will be rejected without review.

Abstracts conforming to guidelines will be reviewed anonymously by an independent board of referees.

The result will be informed once review process is concluded.

The presenting author is required to register once the abstract has been accepted.

The presenting author needs to be ready with the oral presentation if the abstract qualifies for a podium presentation.

Abstracts must contain original scientific data collected by the author(s). All reports must be based on work that has already been completed. No studies "in progress" will be accepted. Any established research design or method may be used.

The Scientific Committee reserves the right to make alterations and to edit text to standardize/ improve the title / abstract.

The Scientific Committee reserve the right to request the 'Ethical Clearance Certificate’ for the conduct of the study / Clinical Registry details if deemed necessary.

The Scientific Committee requests authors to kindly abide by publication ethics especially in the context of avoiding falsification of data, plagiarism, improprieties of authorship, misappropriation of ideas of others and failure to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements affecting violation of generally accepted research practices.

The authors should accept intellectual / ethical responsibility for the contents presented.
